Cricket is undoubtedly Sri Lanka's most popular sport but the vast majority of the population have never even handled a real cricket ball.
They are the current world t20 champions and boast some of the world's finest players, including; Mahela Jayawardene, Kumar Sangakarra and Lasith Malinga.
For either financial or other reasons, youngsters are prevented from following in the footsteps of their role models.
Unfortunately, in many rural areas of the country, children are unable to partake in the sport that they love due to the lack of funding, facilities or basic kit.
Step in cricket enthusiast Upul and the Lanka Kade Educational Foundation; who sourced a container's worth of cricket equipment donated from across the UK.
The foundation funded the transportation and distribution of kit to schools in Sri Lanka.
Kit was divided equally between schools across the country. Care was taken as always to ensure that the schools with limited funding were prioritised.
Lanka Kade's UK staff took time out from visiting producers last year to call in at the schools. They saw first-hand the children playing with the equipment and their excitement and enthusiasm being able to play with real cricket kit.
Lanka Kade is currently in talks with another local cricket kit manufacturer, and is planning to send over another consignment of cricket equipment this year. Please get in touch if you think that you could help in any way.
